Modafinil, a non-amphetamine central nervous system stimulant with wakefulness-promoting characteristics, is an ingredient in the medicine Modvigil 200. It is employed in the treatment of narcolepsy-related excessive drowsiness, shift-work sleep disorder, and obstructive sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome. In the region of the brain that regulates sleep and wakefulness, modafinil works by altering the concentrations of a few natural chemicals.The FDA has given modafinil approval to treat individuals with narcolepsy, sleep work shift disorder, and obstructive sleep apnea. There are also a number of off-label uses for it. Modafinil may make people feel less sleepy, but it cannot treat sleep problems.
